Rights and Responsibilities

Service Users Rights

The NSW Rape Crisis Centre recognises the personal worth and individuality of service users and supports each person's right to access a non judgemental, respectful, consultative and transparent service.

Service Users have the right:

  • to be treated with dignity, compassion and respect;
  • to be listened and responded to;
  • to be offered a non-judgemental service;
  • to have culture, class, age, ability and sexual preference respected;
  • to be informed of the agency's services and consulted in the development of the case management plan;
  • to be, within the confines and limitations of the agency, offered confidentiality and privacy;
  • to be provided with information about other services, remedies and options; and
  • to complain when it is felt that the service which is provided has not been appropriate.

Service Users Responsibilities

When accessing NSW Rape Crisis Centre services, the Centre requests that service users:

  • access the service for interventions relating to sexual violence;
  • be non-threatening or aggressive to centre workers;
  • be truthful and forthcoming with personal details when consulted in the development phase of a case management plan;
  • be realistic in the setting of case goals and work toward the achievement of those goals;
  • abide by boundaries set in the case management plan;
  • provide feedback and evaluation to the organisation;
  • provide non-identifying statistical data to the organisation for accountability purposes; and
  • participate in the referral process to local face to face services.
